Nothing feels better than being confident and at ease in the body you’re in, both outside and in. I Love Bramhall met up with personal trainer Catherine Smith to find out how she works to help women achieve their fitness goals – in whatever form that may take.
Cat decided at the start of 2019 to embark on her own solo personal training journey, having worked previously at Ultimate Performance Gym in Cheshire. Although relatively new to being an independent PT, she’s quickly building a glowing reputation and helping to deliver some great results.
Cat, who is originally from Buxton, entered the world of personal training during a gap year in Australia, when her gradually increased confidence in the gym led people to ask her for tips and advice. Having reaped the benefits of getting fit herself, Cat’s now a fully trained PT and dedicated to helping others achieve their health and fitness goals.
Based out of a PT-only studio in the centre of Bramhall, Cat works with female clients who want to improve their fitness for a variety of reasons. Her main focus, however, is on longevity and balance – she believes fitness should be a lifestyle, not a quick fix.
Cat has particularly noticed the benefits of fitness on mental health and wellbeing, and has seen clients become much more upbeat and relaxed since beginning their personal training journey with her.
With its friendly, laid back vibes, Cat finds Bramhall a lovely area to work in. Most of her clients live locally to Bramhall and Stockport, meeting with Cat to squeeze in a workout before work or after dropping the kids to school.
All of Cat’s personal training packages begin with a free-of-charge, no-obligation taster session, during which she gets to know the client and the results they’re looking for. Whether it’s a more toned-up look for a holiday or wedding, or to feel healthier in general, Cat is with her clients every step of the way along their journey.
Cat doesn’t think being fit and healthy should mean giving up the things you love, including a drink or sweet treat from time to time. Instead, she focuses on subtle swaps and changes that can do wonders for overall health without clients having to deny themselves those necessary little indulgences.
One benefit of having a personal trainer is the level of accountability it provides, as well as having a friendly face to make you feel at ease in the gym. It isn’t necessary to be a member of a gym to work out with Cat – you don’t even need to have been in a gym before! She works with clients at all levels of fitness and experience.
Cat works five days a week, including evenings and early mornings, which makes it easy to incorporate working out into your daily routine. The studio she works at is shared between herself and just four other personal trainers, making it a calm and relaxed space ideal for beginners.
Working out with a friend can be a wonderful way to keep yourself motivated; Cat also offers group sessions for up to three people. She’s noticed that clients tend to push themselves that bit more when they have a friend with them, and offers discounted rates for groups, so it’s win-win!
