The Plum Choice – Tucked away in The Village Square
is a charming, little cafe that has become one of the Bramhall’s biggest success stories. Mother and Daughter team, Kath and Anna have been quietly building Plumcake’s
reputation since 2012, to rave reviews from customers.
So much so, that TripAdvisor
has recently awarded the cafe their highly coveted Certificate of Excellence for customer satisfaction.
So what are the ingredients of their success? Whilst sat in the cosy and relaxed dining room, pouring our tea from a multicoloured, ceramic teapot into a china cup and saucer (none of the crockery matches, it’s part of the charm) ILovebramhall.com
took the opportunity to do a spot of people watching…
There were busy Mums grabbing a quick sit down with a slice of home made cake whilst their young children rummaged through the cafe’s toy box for something to keep them entertained, there were local business people having a relaxed meeting over a cup of freshly ground coffee and on this morning like most others, there were a table of workmen tucking into a hearty cooked breakfast. Just like finding an amazing, little restaurant in Majorca that’s full of locals, the sign of a good cafe is when the Great British Builder gives it the thumbs up.
Certainly the warm, family feel of Plumcake
attracts a wide variety of customers. Anna’s daughter actually chose the name for the cafe, Anna runs front of house and Kath is in charge of the kitchen. Together, they make everyone feel like part of their family.
“We like to look after people they way we would like to be looked after. It’s just us, no business partners, just family” Kath told us, and it shows.
Kath and Anna know all their regulars by name and they remember their favourite dishes. And just like the service, the food is spot on too. Serving breakfast, lunch and afternoon tea 7 days a week, the menu at Plumcake
is full of healthy, home made dishes prepared by Kath and her kitchen team. Heart warming soups, tasty sandwiches and home cooked main meals are a big hit with locals. Kath updates the menu with seasonal variations such as poached salmon with lemon mayonnaise sandwiches in summer and specials including a hearty meat and potato pie in winter.
The cakes are mouthwateringly good with the welcome option of gluten and dairy free treats including cupcakes and potato cakes.
“We want to direct people towards healthy cooking and eating options without compromising on taste, We make everything ourselves, even our eggs are done in the pan. We don’t believe in microwaves”
Our top pick from the menu is Plumcake’s
Afternoon Tea, a feast of bite sized sandwiches, savoury tartlets and the best homemade scone (with jam and cream of course) that we’ve found in Bramhall. At just £7.95, it is a big hit with locals and reason enough to pay a visit. Plumcake
also offers an event catering service, and they are proud to play a big part in the local community, providing vouchers for school and charity events and baking their scrumptious cupcakes for free to support the elderly community at The Big Bramhall Tea Party.
