One of our favourite pastimes in England is, of course, the beautiful game. Whether it be watching it, playing it, coaching it… you name it, we love it. Steve Zartarian of Mountfield Rovers (one of our local sports establishments) is no different. We met up with him at his gorgeous Bramhall home to find out more about him and the club he now chairs.

Born in Manchester and raised in Bramhall, Steve is a local lad through and through. He spent his teenage years at Stockport Grammar and moved away to Warwick University where he studied biological sciences. After graduating, a job at AstraZeneca would be his job for the next 20+ years all the way up until the present day!

Steve has slipped more into the IT department of AZ in more recent years, leading to more training to add to his repertoire – a very talented man. Steve told us how he was lucky in the way he works from home a couple of days a week and even gets to travel to amazing places such as India, Australia, America to name a few.

Steve is married to Alison who is the mother to their two wonderful kids, football mad Fin (11) and Elise (8). Fin has just started at Bramhall High this year and Elise is at another local school in Pownall. The football passion started for Steve when he was younger and had a season ticket at Maine Road with his dad. This is now a three-generation tradition, where grandfather, father and the youngest City fan of the family Fin all go to watch them together – how lovely!

“I love football, but I’m just crap at it! Fin is already loads better than me!”

Fin is a member of the under 12 team at Mountfield after starting at under 7s. That is how Steve got into his role himself. One of his friends was a coach at the club and he encouraged Steve to take Fin down to a couple of sessions. Fin loved it and the rest is history! A few months into Fin’s Mountfield career, Steve started getting involved behind the scenes at the club and a little bit of involvement led to a lot of involvement and ending up on the committee in summer 2017.

Mountfield Rovers is coming up to 50 years old – some of you readers may well remember being a part of the club in your younger years when numbers weren’t as abundant as they are now! The club currently has 150 kids registered – a staggering number don’t you think! The amount of community spirit within the children and parents is something that everyone enjoys. If you’d like to be a part of it then feel free to contact the club and get involved!

Mountfield Rovers

The home ground is on Lumb Lane in the village, where they have sole rights to play football on those pitches and they have access to the great facilities at the village hall. Meetings, socials, parties, presentation evenings, etc. are all held there. Four of the junior teams won their cup competitions last year too, so there were a few nights of celebration to be had – wonderful to hear.

The relationship the club have with other businesses in Bramhall is excellent. Various teams within the club are sponsored by the businesses – Amaranth, Mosley Jarman, ConwayMcColl amongst others have all helped the club and sponsored various teams. It’s something Steve would love to continue and help Mountfield really feel like a part of the Bramhall community so if any other local businesses are interested it’s always something they’re open to talking to.

Mountfield Rovers

If your child is looking to play football at a local, trusted, historical, successful and family friendly club, Mountfield Rovers is the one for you. Steve and his newly appointed committee will be more than welcoming, as will the whole of the club members! It’s great to have such an exciting football club in our village with great management behind the scenes too! We LOVE Mountfield Rovers!
