Our feet are often so overlooked: they carry us everywhere and get us from A to B, but rarely do we stop to consider that our toes might deserve a bit of TLC.
Here to help us take better care of our feet is one of Bramhall’s newest businesses, FC by DT, offering a total foot health solution in the heart of the village.
Manager David Taylor opened FC by DT in November and fortunately, as an essential business, the clinic-cum-shop has been able to stay open during the latest national lockdown. Occupying the formerly empty space opposite Mounteney Solicitors, FC by DT’s treatment rooms and spacious shop floor are bright and welcoming – just like David himself.
Living over in Heaton Moor with his son and other half, David spent 13 years working for Dr Scholl – one of the best known brands in orthopaedic foot care and footwear worldwide. David worked his way up through management until his other role as a foster carer made him reassess his career goals. A desire to spend more time with his son gave David the incentive he needed and so, just a couple of months ago, he took the plunge and opened FC by DT – Foot Care by David Taylor.
Running the shop is something David can fit around his son’s schooling, and if necessary, his seven-year-old can pop along and keep him company in the shop. It’s the perfect combination of work-life balance that allows David to put his years of expertise to good use while still being a dedicated dad.
David, who passed his nail technician course with a distinction this year and recently graduated with flying colours as a foot health practitioner, is able to provide routine foot care when necessary but devotes most of his time to manning the shop floor, welcoming customers, booking appointments and fitting shoes and orthotics.
Meanwhile, in one of the two treatment rooms, podiatrist Meg is hard at work. Qualifying last year, Meg works at FC by DT a couple of days a week and spends the rest of her time working as a locum podiatrist for the NHS. The clinic has become so busy, that a second Podiatrist, Michelle will be joining the team soon.
Despite lockdown, the podiatry clinic is fully booked – Meg has been seeing patients with all kind of foot-related problems, from hard skin and verrucas to muscular skeletal issues. The introductory offer has certainly helped get clients through the door: new patients can book their first routine session – covering removal and treatment of corns, calluses or hard skin, nails trimmed, filed and burred, and ingrowing toenails treated – for just £25.
There are various treatment plans on offer, too. Patients can sign up and pay in advance for three or six treatments and save £12.50 or £36 accordingly. For clients who want to spread the cost of their footcare treatments, meanwhile, FC by DT also offers LayBuy credit – an interest-free way to pay for footwear, orthotics or podiatry over six weeks. Discounts are offered for students, NHS and Blue Light workers AND there’s currently a sale on products in-store and online with up to 70% off!
As well as podiatry services, FC by DT is a one-stop-shop for footwear of all kinds, from kids’ shoes to high heels; well-known brands like Skechers and K-Swiss to wide and specialist fit footwear. There are handbags, schoolbags, umbrellas, gloves and slippers to browse, too, as well as various foot health accessories and off-the shelf orthotics; custom orthotics for conditions like plantar fasciitis can be ordered following podiatry assessments.
As David says, “If your feet are happy, so are you”. Call to book in or use the online booking system to make an appointment Monday – Saturday – here’s all the information you need for happy feet:
