If you’ve found yourself feeling that you or a loved one could benefit from a little extra help day to day – perhaps through older age, disability or illness – looking into care options can be daunting. I Love Bramhall met up with Ian Dunlop from Family Care Solutions to discuss how their services can ease the transition to assisted living at home.
Family Care Solutions (FCS) was founded by Ian and Lynda Dunlop in 2012 and the couple run the business alongside their daughters Jemma and Nadine. A family business through and through, the Dunlops understand the importance of being surrounded by the people you love, which is why they aim to take the pressure off families and let them get on with spending quality time together.
The team at Family Care Solutions specialises in offering day-to-day assistance in whatever form that may take, from helping with personal hygiene tasks to getting the weekly shop in. They’re also on hand to bring clients along to hospital appointments, the hairdressers, church, or catch-ups with friends.
While the majority of Family Care Solutions’ clients are adults over the age of 65, the group is fully qualified to care for children and adults with disabilities or other needs. FCS offers the same professional, friendly and holistic care to individuals of any age and has a number of children on its books.
While care homes offer a fantastic service, many people value being in their own home, with their own space, belongings and pets. Family Care Solutions combine the privacy and familiarity of staying at home with the peace of mind that there’s always somebody on the other end of the phone.
Ian reminisced about a client of Family Care Solutions’ – a gastronome with a taste for fine wine and entertainment – who, while staying in a rehabilitation centre following an operation complained to him, “they tried to get me to play bingo!”. The personalised services offered by FCS fit around each client’s own interests and hobbies – no involuntary bingo in sight!
Since starting up nearly a decade ago with just Ian and Lynda, Family Care Solutions has expanded to a fleet of 22 carers, all of whom are DBS checked and qualified to work with vulnerable people. FCS is registered with the Care Quality Commission, which also ensures that excellent standards of care are provided.
While there are enough carers to ensure every client’s needs are met, Family Care Solutions is also small enough that there are no strangers: the team knows all the carers and clients personally, and everyone is regarded as a member of their extended family. There is a leadership professional on hand between 7am and 10pm daily, so questions can be answered promptly at any time of the day.To ensure they’re always one step ahead and ready to face any potential challenges, Family Care Solutions conducts a week-long assessment of the care needs of each new client before they put together their personalised care plan.
Though not originally from Bramhall themselves, the Dunlops love being a part of our kind and welcoming community. They give back to the community of Bramhall and the surrounding areas not only through their work, but by supporting local organisations such as the Woodford Church Magazine.
In their free time, the Dunlops enjoy catching some rays at their holiday home in Kalkan, Turkey. When they’re not relaxing by the beach, the family helps out with KAPSA – a local charity which cares for the stray animals that wander the streets there.
If you feel that you or somebody you know could benefit from some extra help at home, it’s worth getting in touch with Family Care Solutions to see how they could assist you or a loved one. Clients benefit from calling the team out anywhere between once a week and four to five times a day – the service is tailored to each individual’s needs.
