Maths tutoring business expands following strong demand for its proven approach. Mathnasium, an innovative childrens’ maths learning centre is opening in Bramhall shortly.
Mathnasium is a global organisation that has designed a proven maths learning programme which has already secured a strong track record with over 900 successful centres in America, Canada, Hong Kong and the Middle East. The Mathnasium approach uses specially trained maths instructors to deliver its innovative approach to learning maths; helping children between the ages of six and 16 years of age to develop a real understanding and love of the subject.
The Bramhall branch will be situated at 36 Woodford Road, right next to Marjoes and is to be run by franchise owner Aileen Clarkson. UK-born Aileen already has a track record of running a number of highly successful centres in America and is keen to share her knowledge and passion for Mathanasium’s approach to maths to the UK market. Having taught numeracy and GCSE Maths at Stockport College, she feels the Mathnasium method of teaching maths is perfect to supplement the standards set by the National Curriculum.
“Bramhall is a prime location for a Mathnasium centre, where we recognise a need for high-level support for maths to school children of all ages right up to studying for GCSE qualifications. Having experienced the progress and engagement that children have made when learning maths in America, I am thrilled to be opening my first centre in the UK. This will be the first location in the north west of England and I am looking forward to working within the community to help local children discover a love of maths, and to partner with local schools and PTA’s to support their fundraising efforts.”
Director of UK Operations at Mathnasium and franchise expert Steve Felmingham agrees:
“After opening Mathnasium’s first learning centre and training facility in Radlett, Hertfordshire last year, we have seen unprecedented demand for our approach. With our headquarters based in the north west we are excited to be opening our first of hopefully many centres in the region.”
The Mathnasium Method works by developing a deeper understanding of the relationship between numbers and problems in a real-world environment. This delivers:
“However, it’s not just learning to pass exams. Mathnasium teaches life skills that help prepare students for sixth-form, university, and beyond.”
Following the opening of Bramhall, Mathnasium is planning the launch of several more new UK franchised centres over the next few months, including Learning Centres in Milton Keynes, Amersham, Chiswick, Crouch End and Northcote Road, Clapham.
The Mathnasium Method was first developed more than forty years ago by maths educator Larry Martinek, who was inspired to find a way to teach children maths which addressed the serious disconnect between the students’ basic skills training and the curriculum they were expected to master. Instead of relying on traditional rote memorisation and repetitive exercises, Larry’s work focused on helping children understand maths by honing their maths instincts and getting them to think like mathematicians. His work evolved into a complete curriculum from pre-school to sixth-form maths.
In 2002, Larry introduced his teaching methodologies as the Mathnasium Method™ at their first maths learning centre in California. This approach goes beyond traditional maths tutoring to develop understanding and build a love for maths by teaching it to children in a way that makes sense to them. Today, the Mathnasium Method™ is providing children all over the world increased confidence, critical thinking skills, and mathematical ability to last a lifetime.
